Title 1 Parent Involvement Policy

 

Decherd Elementary School desires to involve parents, both as individuals and as groups, in the education of children.  This involvement includes meaningful participation in the decision-making process in planning, implementing, and evaluating.  The following policies are formulated to reach our goals:

 

1. An annual meeting will be held in each school during the first month of school.  This meeting will provide the following:

a.     Information concerning Title 1 program laws, regulations, and      guidelines

b.     Explanation of the Title 1 program and services

c.      Date and place of the system-wide Advisory Council meeting

d.     Invitation to view the operation of the Title 1 program, including classroom visits, in order to acquire the information and experience needed for meaningful consultation

e.      Invitation to serve on the school’s Advisory Team and to make suggestions for the program

f.       Distribution of the school’s Parent Involvement Policy to parents

 

2. Decherd Elementary School will establish a Parent Advisory Team of at least three parents.  The Parent Advisory Team will work in consultation with the School’s Leadership team consisting of the school principal, classroom teachers, Title 1 representative, Title 1 director, coordinator, and Parent Advisory Team.

3. The Parent Advisory Team at Decherd Elementary will be included in the Franklin County Schools’ Title 1 Parent Advisory Council.  The Council shall meet a minimum of three times a year for the purpose of providing input into the planning, implementing, and evaluating of the Title 1 program on a school-wide basis.   Date and places of meetings shall be communicated through the school.

4. A Parent/Student/Teacher Compact will be reviewed and signed during parent/teacher conferences.

5. Students’ progress will be communicated to parents every three weeks with informal progress reports and every six weeks with formal report cards.

6. Parent/ Teacher Conferences will be held once a year.

7. Consultation with parents will be done through the use of the Needs Assessment Survey.
