Dear Parents/Guardians:
Thanks to you, we are having another wonderful school year. Your kids are great. But the year is not over. We have so much going on, it’s like we just started! Classes continue taking field trips, excursions to the University and beyond. They are actively staying engaged with their lessons, completing projects and preparing themselves for next year! Of course, we are also looking forward to end of the year activities such as the Talent Show and Field Day.
TCAP testing is April 7th through 11th for grades 2-5. SES does not believe in cramming, etc. However, we do believe it is essential for your child to be at his/her best, he/she must get a good night sleep and some good nourishment in the morning. Also, as with any school day, it is imperative that he/she arrives to school on time. If you would like to proctor, please contact the school’s office. Otherwise, I will be sending out reminders to those who showed an interest at the beginning of the school year.
We enjoy having you visit the school and encourage you to join your child for lunch. However, we do ask that you contact the cafeteria (598-0016) prior to 9:00 a.m. to ensure they have time to prepare the choice of meal you would like. Don’t forget to sign-in. It’s one way we document parent involvement!
The annual staff has been busily finishing up what should be another excellent yearbook. They will be delivered sometime in late May. Order forms will be sent out in April.
Our annual Science Fair will be held on March 27. As in the past, the school will be open for parents to view the exhibits from 3:00 until 6:00 that evening. Then our fourth and fifth graders will perform a musical that evening. This should make for another full house. Science Fair display boards may be purchased in the office for $3.00.
With the end of the year in sight, this might be a good time to check for your child’s missing clothing. By the end of the year, we often end up with over thirty plus garments without names written on them. Items not claimed are passed on to organizations such as Appalachian Women’s Guild.
At the beginning of the school year you were given a packet from the state department called “Cover Kids”. The packets were for those who may be in need of children’s health insurance. If you would like additional information, please come by the office.
This school year our faculty has been working diligently on a School Improvement Plan(SIP) for the state and especially your children. Naturally, we seek your input. With that in mind, a survey is attached for you to complete. As we have time constraints, we would like it returned by March 25.
For those of you who missed the Messenger’s article from Chief Parrott and me, I am attaching a copy of it below. We appreciate your shared concern and cooperation as we continue to strive toward a safe environment for you and your children. Also, we appreciate your understanding the need to stay out of the parking lot. We consider it a safety zone and need your help as role models for the children.
As always, I appreciate your shared concern and support with the education of your child.
